Cairns Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
by Nordlys Ellipse
At Skin Cancer & Cosmetic Clinic Flecker House we use the unique medical grade Intense Pulse Light (IPL). Nordlys Ellipse has narrow-band technology defined by dual filters and Sub-millisecond pulses. This technology provides great treatment versatility to help us treat different conditions safely and effectively.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) works in a similar way to laser but differs in being able to deliver a range of wavelengths rather than a single wavelength, allowing multiple skin changes to be targeted and treated at the same time.
By adjusting the wavelengths of light used along with the pulse duration and fluency (energy) IPL can have a broad range of beneficial skin effects.
As we mature our skin endures obvious changes. It losses its smoothness and becomes thinner causing unwanted pigmentation and redness caused by small blood vessels. Sun exposure can increase the signs of ageing.
What is the process during the treatment:
Safety eyewear will be worn during the treatment. A gel will be applied to the area to be treated. Several passes of the IPL will be applied combined with the laser if required. During the treatment, it will give a sensation like an elastic band slapping the skin combined with a warm heat sensation.
After the treatment, a sunburn-like reaction is common and can last for a few hours. Redness and swelling is also common. Scabbing or crusting can occur and age spots can darken before lifting off or fading. It is strongly advised to avoid the sun, use sunscreen and ample moisturization after the treatment.
